Mad Dog Movie Reviews
Bubba Ho-tep
(1 Mad Dogs)
Directed By: Don Coscarelli, his previous films include Beastmaster and Phantasm (yes this will be awesome!!!!)
Starring: Bruce Campbell (Ash from Army of Darkness) as Elvis (yes I said Elvis), Ossie Davis (from get on the Bus) As JFK (An African American as JFK, can you smell the quality?) and Bob Ivey (of nothing) as Bubba Ho-tep
With such a fine director and Bruce (Cult Icon) Campbell in it, it has to be good? Right? Let’s take a look.
Ok, let’s get to the point. Was it any good? Well to be honest it did have its moments, like when JFK and Elvis talk about junk food:
JFK: Would you like a ding-dong
[Elvis looks towards JFK's crotch]
JFK: Oh, I don't mean mine! I mean a chocolate ding-dong.
[Thoughtful]
JFK: Of course mine would be chocolate now that I've been dyed.
Unfortunately funny scenes like that came only after what seemed like hours of introspective moments by Elvis about how he lost all of the loves of his life, Priscilla, his daughter and his penis. It just came down to a good premise but poor execution, I mean it is good for a B movie to be schlock but if it is it better do it right! It wasn’t funny enough to be like an Army of Darkness and it wasn’t horror enough to be a Maniac Cop.
If only they could have had more JFK, he was by far the best part of this movie but alas it wasn’t and so I can’t say that I can recommend this movie except for those people out there who are Bruce Campbell completists or those of you who need to see something even more out there than Meet the Feebles!
