Mad Dog Movie Reviews
The SpongeBob SpuarePants Movie (2004)
(3 Mad Dogs)
Starring: (The voices of) Tom Kinney (of Shakes the Clown), Scarlett Johansen (of Ghost World) and Bill Fagerbakke (Dauber form the TV show Coach)
First of all I will give you some warning if you plan on seeing this movie. Don’t see it in the theater unless you love to hear little kid’s talking and crying during your movie experience. Also, if you hate the show then don’t go.
The movie starts off in SpongeBob’s hometown of Bikini Bottom on the day of what he believes will be his big promotion to manager at the new Crusty Crab 2. Of course Mr. Krabbs gives the job to Squidward gets the job because he is more mature and the usual chipper SpongeBob goes off to drown his sorrows in ice cream. Meanwhile Plankton has a new plan to get the crabby patty secret formula by stealing King Neptune’s crown and framing Mr. Krabbs. When Neptune confronts Mr. Krabbs and attempts to execute him but Spongebob stops him by offering up the service’s of him and his best friend Patrick to go and recover the crown to save Mr. Krabbs and to prove that they are men.
People may read this and just scratch their head over why a 27 year old would go and watch a cartoon that sounds this ridiculous? Well, because I love the show and this movie did not disappoint. It was just a fun and stupid movie. Does that make sense? In fact it may be worth the price of admission alone for the Ice Cream parlor scene and the end with David Hasselhoff (not as a voice of some character but as himself in one of the most bizarre movie scenes I have seen this year). So if you like to have fun and not have to think about it, go out to see this movie.
