Mad Dog Movie Reviews
License to drive (1988)
(4 Mad Dogs)
I was 10 or 11 years old when this came out and in my school it was THE must see movie of the year. especially for the girls as it had "The Corey's" in it. I am a loser so I saw it a few years after it was realeased on video but it does not make my love for this and less than "The Danielle's" from my fifth grade class' had for it. Sadly mine is probably much greater now than theirs ever was.
Now the plot is a bit tricky so try to stay with me on this.
Corey Haim and his twin sister (who would turn into the hot blonde from "Airheads") are about to get their license. Corey is overly confident and he sleeps through his class dreaming of Mercedes (not the car but his dream girl played by Heather Graham). Mercedes is dating some 45 year old with a nice car but he is a douche. Somehow she ends up making a date with Corey to get back at douche on the same day that Corey is to get his license. So of course Corey fails his test but he lies to his parents about it. They find out and ground him, he still takes car and keeps date...hilarity ensues.
Of course our hero gets into ashitload of trouble but somehow avoids it with a last minute save to get the girl, the car, the world, the great job and who knows what else. The beauty of the teen movie genre is everything is supposed to be fucked up over an hour and 25 minutes, just so it can be put together in the last 5. That's what makes them so great and that is what makes this a classic of epic proportion. Now get off the internet and go pick up this movie now, especially for the surprisingly hysterical interviewing of the Corey's.
An innocent girl, a harmless driver. What could possibly go wrong?
