What Happened? Questionable ending to movies: Airborne
February 15, 2008

Airborne could have been one of the greatest films of all time. But instead the director decided to treat the viewers like morons and quit before it ended.  Never watched it? Well you should but I will give you a brief synopsis anyway.

Mitchell Goosen is a laid back surfer dude from California who is forced to move to Cincinnati to live with some unhip relatives while his zoologist parents go to do some work in Australia. It is a fish out of water laugh fest that has it’s hijinx set to level 12 with a young Jack Black and a not to be missed fashion show set to “I’m too sexy” by Seth Green. Oh and it also has some extreme skating on huge hills and in botanical gardens, so extreme that the wheels screech with joy at every jump!

So the ending has Mitchell joining up with the local losers who have tormented him since he moved to his new town. Heck, the only reason they want him on their side is because of a huge race with the upper class jerks, if they win they get respect and if they lose they are still losers. The rules of the race are two things; first team with three finishers wins and besides that there are no rules. Intense! Of course the good guys win and Mitchell is beloved by all but the win is a bit tainted by my account.

You see the leader of the bad guys had an easy skate to victory when the leader of the good guys is knocked out but instead he fights with Mitchell who had to do a miraculous 35 foot drop to get back into the race. All the guy had to do was finish but the directors obviously had no other idea to add drama so they went for the fight route. When the leader is dumped into a river it just feels cheap and the feel good ending is tainted. Then to make matters worse they forget to edit out a camera man who is celebrating with everyone at the end.

Airborne, you could have been great but instead I have to ask, what happened?
